IMPORTANT
Place the simulator on the opertive field. The labels on opposite sides
of the simulator must face head to toe. If placed correctly you will encounter
vessels to be clamped and tied when dissecting through the tissue layers.
Simulated ovaries are represented in this simulator. A right/left or bilateral
oopherectomy, and removal of ectopic pregnancy may also be performed on this
simulator.
Simulation
- Drape the operative field.
- Make a transverse incision in the middle of the simulator.
- Dissect through the underlying tissue with knife, cautery, and scissors.
Clamp, cut and tie vessels.
- Incise the fascia and dissect through the muscle layer.
- A self-retaining retractor may be placed in the wound at any time once
dissection has begun.
- Open the peritoneum.
- Explore the wound. A right or left removal of ectopic pregnancy should
be performed first.
- Grasp one tube with a babcock and identify it as either the right or left
tube. Find the ectopic. Incise the tube and remove the ectopic.
- A right or left oopherectomy and a bilateral tubal ligation can also be
performed.
- Close each layer of the wound with suture of choice. When suturing, moisten
the tissue to allow the suture to pass freely through it.
